North Haven, Branford and East Catholic all stayed hot as the calendar turned to January, and Trinity Catholic introduced itself with a signature Division II win to keep itself unbeaten.

The Crusaders improved to 4-0 with a 3-2 win over Amity, keeping pace with the Indians (easy wins over Woodstock Academy and Trumbull), the Hornets (a 4-3 win over Milford) and the Eagles (a big victory of their own, a 4-2 East Catholic win over Glastonbury).

New Milford continued its strong start with a couple of easy wins. The Green Wave lead a small pack that had beat up on each other: It beat Cheshire but lost to Hand, while Cheshire beat Hand. Hand had started 3-0, but the Tigers’ schedule turned harder, and they lost a few close ones.

North Branford started 2014 with a win over defending champion Fairfield, which though winless early had played a tough schedule of its own.
